In April 2010, more than a hundred scientists, business leaders, philanthropists and entertainment icons visited the Galapagos Islands in an effort to publicize the need for protecting the world’s oceans and marine life. That gathering planted the seed for an organization of “ocean elders” that would continue to raise awareness and support for ocean conservation initiatives for years to come.

Now, six years later, OceanElders is one of the organizations set to receive the proceeds of a silent auction hosted by The Ocean Gala. (Another receiving organization, MaiTai Global, has a similar tactic of rallying big names to support environmental causes related to marine conservation.)

From now until 9:30PM PST on Saturday, December 3rd, you can browse and bid on an expansive list of items donated in the name of ocean conservation. The list includes, incidentally, a trip to the same islands that inspired the founders of OceanElders: Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic have donated a 10-day expedition for two to the Galapagos Islands aboard the National Geographic Endeavor II.

The voyage comes with access to five onboard naturalists, a Lindblad-National Geographic photo instructor and opportunities to hike, kayak, paddleboard, swim and snorkel alongside the Galapagos’ stunning marine life. It’s a chance to admire a marine ecosystem, while supporting the very organizations that work to protect it.
