28 Jun Acclaimed Author Isabel Allende to Host Private Jet Expedition from Peru to Patagonia
Award-winning Chilean-American author Isabel Allende will be the guest host on Bushtracks’ “Peru to Patagonia by Private Jet” expedition March 4-20, 2017, according to David Tett, the adventure travel company’s founder and president.
The 17-day expedition connects the Amazonian rainforest, the Atacama Desert, Argentina’s wine country, Chiloe Island, Torres del Paine National Park, and Tierra del Fuego using a regional private jet configured for 40 guests. Author Allende was born in Peru, but raised in Chile, and her first acclaimed novel, The House of the Spirits, was a fictionalized story of her family covering 70 years of Chile’s political and social history.
“This trip includes wildly different and fascinating parts of Latin America, and I feel that it was created just for me,” Allende says. “I have written 21 books in 25 years. Several places that we will visit together appear in my books. The Amazon is the setting for a young adult novel, City of the Beasts. In Ines of My Soul, a historical novel about the conquest of Chile, I write about Peru, the Atacama Desert, and the founding of Santiago. Daughter of Fortune, about the California Gold Rush of 1849, starts in Chile, and its sequel, Portrait in Sepia, is set in the South of Chile. The magical island of Chiloe, that we will visit, appears extensively in Maya’s Notebook. I also wrote a nostalgic memoir called My Invented Country, about Chile and the Chilean character. I am looking forward to telling some of the stories and answering travelers’ questions during this two-week journey.”
David Tett, who will co-host the trip, adds, “This is truly an adventure with something for everyone: from the foodie to the photographer, the bibliophile to the birdwatcher. Our days will range from Amazon River cruises, to sunsets in one of the driest places on earth, to winemaking experiences and puma and penguin encounters. And in the evenings we’ll enjoy the company of a master storyteller whose books have taken inspiration from the very places we’ll explore together. I’ve traveled extensively, and this promises to be the trip of a lifetime.”
In addition to Allende and Tett, Chilean naturalist and author Claudio Vidal will also host the expedition.
