26 Jan Blog Your Way Around the World: the Galapagos Islands: Getting Ready

In 2010, seven of Adventure Collection’s ten members sponsored Blog Your Way Around the World, a unique online travel contest that challenged contestants to write a short essay about why they deserved to win eight of the world’s most amazing adventure vacations and how, if selected the winner, they would write about their experiences to inspire others. Beth Robbins won the contest by receiving the most votes from readers. Beth is currently enjoying, and blogging about, one of her prizes, a Galapagos Islands cruise aboard the National Geographic Endeavor, courtesy of Lindblad Expeditions. We are pleased to share her dispatches here.

It’s time for another trip! I can’t believe how lucky I am to be going to the Galapagos Islands this time. Traveling with Adventure Collection companies has been absolutely wonderful. Lucky for me this time that I don’t have to leave a cold climate to get there. The Galapagos are located west of Ecuador right on the equator. So it’s a tropical climate with amazing weather. I am leaving for this trip from the British Virgin Islands so I’ll be going from warm to warm. This is probably the first time I haven’t had to adjust to the weather by experiencing extreme to extreme. My snorkel, bathing suits, and hiking gear are all ready to go…and so am I.

Nat Geo Endeavor

I’ve read up on the Galapagos and I can’t wait to see this protected habitat. Since Charles Darwin first traveled there this archipelago of islands has seen little change. The land masses are home to very few humans but are home indigenous animals not seen anywhere else in the world. Because they are not in danger of being harmed by predators, these magnificent beings flourish in harmony with nature and the humans who are privileged to share their world. I cannot tell you how excited I am to be a part of their habitat for even a brief period of time. This will be a Lindblad Expeditions trip aboard the National Geographic Endeavor. Hiking, snorkeling, diving, kayaking! I am one happy camper.
