Eight Great Holiday Gifts for Travelers

26 Nov Eight Great Holiday Gifts for Travelers

Shopping for a long list of loved ones can get tiresome fast, especially if you don’t have any fresh ideas. I don’t know about you, but I’m a little tired of giving – and receiving! – sweaters, socks, and soap. Do you have any avid travelers on your list? Here are a few fun items they probably don’t get every year.

1. The WineHug
Winehug
Foodie-types who like to bring their own special wines when traveling will get a lot of use out of this inflatable, protective travel pouch for 750ml bottles. It self-inflates like a camping sleep pad, and can easily be tucked into checked luggage. As a bonus, it can be used both coming and going so travelers can stock up on interesting vintages when seeing the world.

2. A patterned Smartwool neck gaiter
Smartwool Neck Gaiter
This gift allows your loved one to add a little foolproof style and warmth to any winter travel outfit without agonizing about how to tie a scarf. There are dozens — if not hundreds — of ways to wear a scarf, but only one way to wear a neck gaiter: around your neck.

3. An iPhone leash

Got an iPhone dropper on your list? This handy coiled elastic leash has a Kevlar loop on one end (which can be secured to a wrist, belt loop, zipper pull, purse, or backpack) and a 30-pin dock fastener with a locking mechanism on the other end (which plugs directly into the user’s phone). Note that this leash is not compatible with the new iPhone 5c and 5s, but the company is working on that.

4. The Fitbit Force

Fitness at home and abroad is a lot easier with the Fitbit Force, a bracelet-style activity monitor that syncs wirelessly to the user’s computer or smartphone. The quantified self movement is easy to dismiss as a fad, but it’s amazing how motivating hard data can be when it’s attached to your wrist (and telling you that you didn’t quite reach your goal of 10,000 daily steps).

5. A pair of Purse n’ Boots

Women who dislike carrying a purse will be delighted to receive a pair of luxury leather riding boots with hidden, secret pockets inside for credit cards, smart phones, and passport. These gorgeous boots come in black and brown and are available in three calf sizes.

6. The Butterfly wallet
Butterfly Wallet
An ultra-light, ultra-thin ripstop nylon wallet that weighs less than a U.S. quarter makes an extremely practical travel gift. While it’s billed as a man’s wallet, some of the colors would appeal equally to women. Who knows? Maybe the recipient of this stylish, functional wallet will decide to use it every day instead of only on vacation.

7. The Scrubba Washbag
Scrubba Wash Bag
Flashpackers and people who like to travel very light will love this pocket-sized travel laundry system. Simply put your dirty shirt, socks, or underwear in this dry bag with built in washboard, add water and soap, close, and rub for 3 minutes for a machine-quality wash. Rinsing works the same way, but without the soap.

8. Funny luggage tags
Funny Luggage Tags
When you need a stocking stuffer or just one more small gift, funny luggage tags are perfect. For women, I like Anne Taintor’s hilarious retro style tags with messages like, I love not camping and We all have our baggage. Men will enjoy tags with messages like, Don’t make me chase you and It just looks like your black bag.
