Polar
The Polar regions of the Arctic and Antarctic offer spectacular landscapes and profoundly moving encounters with wildlife, but beyond these similarities, the two regions are vastly different. The Arctic is an ocean surrounded by continents; Antarctica is a continent surrounded by an ocean. Wildlife in Antarctica consists of whale, seal, penguin and some 20 bird species; wildlife in the Arctic includes reindeer, wolf, musk ox, hare, lemming, fox, polar bear, walrus, seal and whale, as well as more than 100 bird species. Still, travelers agree that both regions reward with priceless perspectives and mind-opening expanses. Many Antarctic trips include visits to South Georgia and the Falkland Islands. Arctic trips often include Franz Josef Land, Svalbard and Jan Mayen islands, Greenland, and Iceland.
