Costa Rica Adventure Travel Packages, Nature Tours and Active Vacations
Explore Costa Rica on a Lindblad cruise, a Backroads bicycle tour, or on a nature tour with Natural Habitat Adventures!
If you were given the power to make a country solely for those who love outdoor adventure and wildlife, you couldn’t do better than to create what Costa Rica already is. Located between two continents and two oceans — and with more than a quarter of its land protected in parks and preserves — Costa Rica has nurtured its great, natural biodiversity: gigantic ferns, magenta orchids, neon-billed toucans, three-toed sloths, howler monkeys, “chattering” peccaries, green iguanas, and red-eyed tree frogs are just a sampling.
Flanked by miles of beaches on the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, Costa Rica’s interior is, by contrast, a lush tangle of rain forest, mist-veiled mountains, and active volcanoes. Deciding how to encounter them all might be the hardest part of traveling to Costa Rica: Do you raft a tropical river, snorkel a coral reef, fly through a jungle on a zip-line, bike or ride horseback on a mountain, or hike a hanging bridge over a rain forest?
Whether your Costa Rica adventure travel package takes you on a trip through the treetops or on a trek via emerald-green, ground trails, you’ll find yourself in the midst of plants and arthropods that number in the thousands, ocelots, pumas, jaguars, blue jeans frogs, and even the rare and beautiful scarlet macaws that find sanctuary here.
In another type of forest, you’ll find hundreds of sensitive orchids and exotic birds. The Monteverde Cloud Forest shelters brightly plumed resplendent quetzals, the sacred bird of the Mayas and Aztecs. And here, you can watch tiny hummingbirds use threads of spider web to sew their nests together. They place them just so in wind-sculpted trees, demonstrating the delicate balance of nature.
The most spectacular time to witness Arenal Volcano, active since 1968, is at night. Watch as it shoots flaming, red rocks across a navy sky. Just a few inches below your feet, lava steams up out of tiny holes, as if the ground you stand on were only a fine mesh above a boiling pot.
So why go to the trouble of designing your own adventure and wildlife nation? It already exists, and it’s called Costa Rica.
