Off the Beaten Path: Chaco Canyon & Canyon de Chelly
Experience the powerful mark early peoples left on the land and culture of this region on a journey to two remote, and very special canyons of Arizona and New Mexico. Your trip leader is intimately familiar with the nature and history of Chaco Canyon, and at Canyon de Chelly, a Navajo guide shares insights into the Puebloan occupation and living Navajo traditions. The journey also takes you on a Native-led tour of Acoma Pueblo, one of the longest occupied settlements in North America, home to descendants of the Chacoan and Canyon de Chelly Puebloan people. On the way to Acoma, you’ll stop at the Hubbell Trading Post National Monument, historical trading headquarters of the Navajo Nation, and El Morro, where Spaniards carved their names into the rocks. The adventure culminates in Old Town Albuquerque, rich in Southwest character. Enjoy amiable company, comfortable accommodations, and distinctive regional cuisine while you discover intriguing history—and some of the most spectacular canyon scenery in the world—well off the beaten path.
Chaco Canyon & Canyon de Chelly: October 2-8; October 9-15; from $2,495.
